Cosplay Photos: Space Dive Detroit 2026

The Outer Rim definitely came to the Motor City in the guise of space port settlement. Space Dive is a fully immersive, fan-run event now in it’s 10th year. It ran May 1, 2, 4, 8 and 9, and was held in Detroit, Mi.

Space Dive is the premier immersive fan experience of the year. The Tangent Gallery was transformed into a bustling spaceport, where the scum and villainy walked along side Storm Trooper, and Rebels, Jedi and Sith.

The event’s full immersion feel is driven by massive sets, crafted by precision master prop makers. You could visit the Cantina for blue Milk cocktails and street food, or head into a Sabacc den for gambling. They even had a Maker’s Marketplace which focused on good appropriate for the immersive universe.

This is NOT your standard convention, there are no spectators. Costuming is mandatory. Every attendee becomes part of the story and event, making it a truly immersive experience as each one add their own narrative. You don’t need a high-end 501st approved costume, but you do need one that will fit with the theme. Costuming can be as simple as a pair of grubby overalls and dirt on your face. You just need to match the esthetic of this immersive event.

We have no idea how this event had never crossed our desk before, but now we are itching to attend next year and it will definitely be listed on our cosplay convention list.

It is only thanks to Ryan Heffron Photography that we learned of this event and he has been generous enough to let us use some of his photos from Space dive. If you want to see more of these great photos, then check out his main album below. And be sure to check out his other great stuff too!
