The 2024 Winnipeg Comiccon took place from October 25-27 at the RBC Convention Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. This event starts in 2019 and continues to grow and reflect a unique community that’s inclusive, and reflective of both classic and emerging pop culture,
It delivered an impressive weekend of pop culture fun for fans across various genres. This year’s headliners, The Lord of the Rings stars Sean Astin and Billy Boyd, captivated attendees in lively Q&A sessions where they discussed behind-the-scenes stories and the legacy of Middle-earth. Fans of Star Wars also had a treat, as Denis Lawson, Diana Lee Inosanto, and Alan Tudyk shared anecdotes and insights about their roles, adding a unique Star Wars twist to the weekend.
Beyond celebrity panels, Winnipeg Comiccon offered a bustling marketplace where fans browsed collectibles, exclusive art, and rare comics, while themed photo ops provided memorable backdrops inspired by beloved franchises. Cosplayers brought the convention to life, with attendees donning detailed costuming. , especially for the Masquerade contest—a highlight where craftsmanship and creativity were celebrated. The Artist Alley featured both regional and national comic book artists and illustrators, creating a hub of inspiration and talent for aspiring creators.
With special guests from Lord of the Rings present, there was a noticeable increase in cosplay inspired by the film franchise, with many fans opting for elaborate elven and fantasy-themed outfits. In addition, the Winnipeg Ghostbusters and Peg City Power Rangers were on hand for charity-driven activities, adding a local touch and giving fans plenty of interactive photo opportunities.
