Tekko 2026 drew over 13,000 enthusiastic fans to the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in downtown Pittsburgh from July 23 through July 26, 2026. Organized by the non-profit Pittsburgh Japanese Culture Society (PittJCS), the four-day gathering celebrated over two decades of modern and traditional Japanese media. Bringing together fans, cosplayers, artists, and gamers from across the region, providing a hub for pop culture, creativity, and immersive fan experiences.
Mainstage programming featuring high-energy live entertainment, musical showcases, and interactive panels. Attendees crowded Stage Uzume for Idolfest performances, K-pop dance cover choreography, and evening dance parties driven by live DJs. Special guest appearances included voice actors from anime series like Attack on Titan, Demon Slayer, and Hunter x Hunter for Q&A sessions and autograph signings. Musical comedy acts, including HeartfeltHumor (Nancy Kepner), entertained crowds with fan-favorite tracks like “The Weeaboo Song” alongside original comedy pieces.
Beyond the mainstage, Tekko 2026 offered a floor packed with interactive activities and shopping opportunities. Gamers flocked to the gaming hall to play authentic Japanese arcade import cabinets, participate in tabletop sessions, and compete in collectible card game tournaments. The vendor room and Artist Alley featured an extensive selection of manga, rare memorabilia, custom prints, and handmade merchandise. There was also a flea market where fans traded vintage goods. Educational workshops and panels allowed visitors to learn about traditional crafts, language, and fashion.
Cosplay was prominently featured across all four days, highlighted by competitions and fan gatherings. The annual Craftsmanship Contest showcased incredible outfits created by talented makers, while performance contests gave cosplayers a chance to bring their favorite characters to life on stage. One of the weekend’s fan-favorites was the Iron Cosplay event, where participants raced against the clock to design and construct outrageous costumes out of random scrap materials and recycled supplies, delivering equal parts ingenuity and comedy to cheering onlookers.
Overall it was a successfully fun weekend and thanks to Sheila Brown we can see a small sample of the cosplay that was out for display this weekend.
