The 2024 Youmacon, held in downtown Detroit from October 31 to November 3, attracted thousands of anime, gaming, and pop culture fans for four days of immersive activities. Established in 2005, Youmacon has evolved into one of North America’s premier anime conventions, drawing over 22,000 attendees last year and ranking as the 10th largest anime convention on the continent. Youmacon is held at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center and Huntington Place transforming the city into a hub of Japanese culture, animation, and fandom with diverse events and special guest appearances.
Youmacon offered an expansive artist alley with one-of-a-kind fan art, a marketplace for anime merchandise, and several gaming tournaments that allowed fans to compete in popular titles like Guilty Gear and Street Fighter. Workshops on animation techniques and voice acting provided hands-on learning opportunities, while interactive events like the charity ball and themed photo ops gave attendees a chance to socialize and connect with fellow fans.
This year’s lineup included notable voice actors such as Suzie Yeung (Yuffie in Final Fantasy VII Remake) and Allegra Clark (Mitsuru in Persona 3 Reload), who engaged fans through panel discussions and autograph sessions, sharing insights into their roles in iconic series. In addition to the voice actor sessions, Youmacon 2024 featured a vibrant array of activities: from costume contests and masquerades to live performances and the anticipated Cosplay World Masters, where cosplayers showcased their craft in a competitive, celebratory spirit.
