MEGACON Orlando is taking place from February 6 to February 9, 2025, at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. This four-day event is a major gathering for fans of comics, sci-fi, horror, anime, and gaming, attracting over 100,000 attendees annually. With thousands of cosplayers present it is always a great opportunity to get some cosplay photos.
This is the third day of the convention and it was crazy. It went from Megacon to LineCon and CrushCon. The event was vastly oversold for the space that they had. The event was absolutely packed. I’ve heard numerous reports that elevators and escalators stopped working, leaving people stranded and security had to become traffic control officers.
The queues of the celebrities were poorly organized and volunteers did not know how to handle things. Celeb photo ops were badly handled and many of them ran way later than scheduled. In general the celebrity portion of the MEGACON was nothing more than a cattle pen of confusion. I don’t know whether I should feel sorrier for the celebrities’ that are being herded and shoved around or the guests who paid for the opportunity to stand in line for hours before they can spend 30 seconds with the celebrity.
As for the cosplay photo shoots many had to be cancelled due to the fact that the organizer, photographer, or cosplayers just couldn’t get through the crush of people to get to the shoot. The broken elevators and escalators only made the commute from end to the other even worse.
Despite all of this, a lot of people still enjoyed themselves, got to see their favorite celeb, attend panels and hang with friends. There was also a lot of opportunity to see some fantastic cosplay costuming.
