Anime Expo (AX) 2025 took place July 2nd to July 5th at the Los Angeles Convention Center. This was a massive, sold-out Japanese pop culture event that brought over 400, 000 fans to the L.A. area. AX was started in 1991 as “Anime Con” by the members of UC Berkeley’s anime club, Cal Animage Alpha and has been running strong since.
The main attraction this year were some major announcements and trailers. Aniplex and Crunchyroll announced a feature length film Solo Leveling: Beyond the System. There was a new trailer for JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run arriving September 25. Attendees were also told about Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle I coming to streaming on July 28, and The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn’t a Guy at All premiering in January.

Anime Expo also had a fantastic lineup of creators and voice talent from across the industry. Artist Yoshitaka Amano, designer Shigenori Soejima and voice actors Masakazu Morita, Adam McArthur, and AJ Beckles were just a few. They had directors Ryosuke Takahashi and Abel Góngora, and artists such as Acky Bright.

Cosplay was a huge part of the event, with many attendees dressing as their favorite characters and participating in showcases and contests. The amount of cosplay can not be captured but thanks to Anthony Jones we can see some of it.
