Hal-Con Sci-Fi, Fantasy & Comic Convention, widely recognized as Hal-Con, originated in the 1970s and was revitalized in the 2010s. Held annually in Halifax, Nova Scotia, during mid-fall, it brings together fans from across Atlantic Canada who showcase impressive costumes and talents. Initially focused on comic books, science fiction, and fantasy, the event has evolved to cover the full spectrum of “geek culture,” including gaming, anime, cosplay, and cyber goth.
The 2024 event occurred November 8–10 and featured a robust lineup of celebrity panels, cosplay competitions, gaming sessions, and artist booths. Guests included actors like Julian Richings (Supernatural), Ben McKenzie (Gotham), and Ben Browder (Stargate SG-1), as well as authors and game designers. Beyond entertainment, Hal-Con emphasizes community values by hosting charity events, fan-led panels, and spaces for casual gaming and fan interactions. Fans could use the Hal-Con app to keep track of events and experience everything from social gaming circles to live performances, creating an inclusive space for fans of all backgrounds.
