Nightmare Weekend was three days of creepy fun hosted by GalaxyCon. It ran May 2-4 in the Chicago area at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center. This horror themed pop culture fan event is all about celebrating the scarier side of the fandom world and the first GalaxyCon event held in the Chicago area.
This was a fun event with a fair amount to do. There was a video and board gaming area, panels, a tattoo zone, and a kids zone. The main stage was just off to the side of the exhibitor area. It was extremely well handled. In many cons the main stage overpowers all nearby areas. The sound is poorly directed making it impossible to hear nearby vendors. Galaxy Con set it up so you could hear the main stage event, but still understand the conversation you were having.
I attended a few panels on the main stage, the main one being Elvira, Cassandra Peterson. The full interview by Galaxycon will be up on YouTube in a few days. What stood out to me from the interview was the emotion she displayed when talking about her longtime friend, Richard Chamberlain who had recently passed away. I briefly watched the William Shatner interview where I learned nothing new and watched some of the fantasy wrestling on Saturday night.
We had previously shown photos that were taken by myself, an amateur photographer. Now we can show you some good quality photos by a true professional.
Now onto the cosplay photos taken by this amateur photographer. Tomorrow we hope to show you the con from a professionals viewpoint. Daxorr Studio was in attendance all weekend with a photography booth. This led to some great cosplay shots, to see more great shots look in the Nightmare Weekend Gallery.
